Ingredients

Main
  • 4-5 medium fresh strawberries about 1/3 cup puree
  • 1.5 ounces 45 ml vodka, preferably chilled
  • 0.75 ounces 22 ml fresh lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 ounces 15 ml simple syrup
  • 0.5 ounces 15 ml strawberry liqueur (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Sugar for rimming the glass
  • Fresh strawberry and lemon wheel for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring
  • Strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Martini glass or coupe glass
  • Fine mesh strainer (optional, for smoother puree)
  • Muddler (optional, if making puree fresh)
  • Cutting board and knife for fruit prep

Method

  1. Hull 4-5 fresh strawberries and slice them into quarters. Place them in a cocktail shaker without ice.
  2. Using a muddler or the back of a bar spoon, gently press the strawberries against the bottom of the shaker to release their juices and break them into smaller pieces. Press firmly but briefly to avoid crushing seeds.
  3. Pour 1.5 ounces of chilled vodka and 0.5 ounces of strawberry liqueur (if using) into the shaker with the muddled berries.
  4. Add 0.75 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 0.5 ounces of simple syrup directly into the shaker.
  5. Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker and seal the top firmly. Shake vigorously for 10-12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty.
  6. Chill a martini or coupe glass by filling it with ice and cold water while shaking. Just before straining, discard the ice water.
  7. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass using a cocktail strainer. For a smoother texture, use a fine mesh strainer to catch any small strawberry pulp.
  8. Rub the rim of the glass with a fresh lemon wheel and dip it into granulated sugar for a sparkling effect.
  9. Garnish the drink with a fresh strawberry slice and a thin lemon wheel. Serve immediately.

Notes

Serve this cocktail ice-cold in a chilled martini or coupe glass with a sugared rim and fresh garnish for the best presentation. Adjust lemon juice or simple syrup to taste based on strawberry sweetness.
