Method
- Place your shot glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes before mixing. A cold glass slows down the mixing of layers and keeps your finished drink at the perfect temperature longer.
- Using a jigger, carefully measure out 1/2 ounce of dark rum into your shot glass.
- Pour the measured dark rum slowly into the center of the chilled shot glass. The rum will settle at the bottom and form the foundation of your layered drink.
- Using your jigger again, measure out 1/2 ounce of coffee liqueur.
- Pour the coffee liqueur slowly over the back of a bar spoon held just above the rum layer, letting it gently flow down the spoon rather than pouring directly into the glass. This technique prevents the liqueurs from mixing and keeps your layers distinct and visible.
- Measure out 1/2 ounce of cold heavy cream into your jigger.
- Using the same bar spoon technique, pour the cream slowly over the spoon's back onto the coffee liqueur layer to create the signature creamy top layer.
- Step back and admire your three distinct layers before serving. Serve immediately to enjoy the best visual and taste experience.
Notes
Pour slowly over the back of a bar spoon and keep all ingredients cold for perfect layering. Use heavy cream rather than light cream or half-and-half for the best texture and visual effect.
