Ingredients

Main
  • 8 cups oyster crackers
  • 6 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix dry packet or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • Salt to taste

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl
  • Oven (preheated to 250 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Airtight storage container

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pour the melted butter into a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl and let it cool for one minute.
  3. In a small bowl, combine ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Whisk together until evenly mixed.
  4. Add eight cups of oyster crackers to a large mixing bowl.
  5. Slowly drizzle the warm melted butter over the crackers while stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula to evenly coat without clumps.
  6. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the buttered crackers and toss gently for 2 to 3 minutes until every cracker is lightly coated.
  7. Spread the coated crackers in a single layer across the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even browning and toasting.
  9. Remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet at room temperature for at least 10 minutes to firm up and crisp.

Notes

If crackers are slightly soft after cooling, return them to a 250-degree oven for 3 to 4 extra minutes to re-crisp before storing. Store cooled crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. Avoid refrigeration, which can soften crackers.
