Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups 16 ounces vodka
  • 4 cups 32 ounces cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1 cup 8 ounces orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1 cup 8 ounces fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup 4 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups 16 ounces ginger ale or sparkling water
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries for garnish
  • 1 orange sliced thin for garnish
  • 2 to 3 cups ice for serving

Equipment

  • Large mixing pitcher (at least 3 quarts)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Punch bowl or large serving bowl
  • Wooden spoon or bar spoon for stirring
  • Cocktail glasses or punch cups
  • Ice bucket and ice
  • Cutting board and sharp knife for garnish prep

Method

  1. Wash the orange thoroughly and slice it into thin rounds, leaving the peel on for garnish. Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and drain completely.
  2. Squeeze fresh orange juice and lemon juice if possible, straining out any pulp or seeds through a fine mesh sieve for a smooth punch.
  3. Pour the vodka and orange liqueur into a large mixing pitcher and stir gently to combine. Ensure both are well chilled before mixing.
  4. Add the cranberry juice cocktail, fresh orange juice, and fresh lemon juice to the pitcher. Stir gently with a bar spoon to blend the ingredients.
  5. Taste the mixture using a clean spoon. If it's too sweet, add an extra tablespoon of lemon juice; if too tart, add a tablespoon of cranberry juice to balance flavors.
  6. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate the punch base for at least 2 hours and up to 8 hours to let flavors develop and chill.
  7. About 15 minutes before serving, fill a punch bowl with a layer of ice or an ice ring to keep the punch cold without rapid dilution.
  8. Pour the chilled punch base into the prepared punch bowl. Top with ginger ale or sparkling water for a fizzy lift.
  9. Float fresh cranberries and orange slices on top as a festive garnish that also subtly infuses flavor.
  10. Serve with 2 to 3 cups of ice and provide cocktail glasses or punch cups for guests.

Notes

Use fresh citrus juice for best flavor. Add ginger ale or sparkling water just before serving to preserve bubbles. Prepare punch base up to 8 hours ahead; add sparkling elements last minute. Freeze cranberries and orange slices in ice cubes for decorative garnish that prevents dilution.
