Method
- Cut your grapefruit in half and juice it using a citrus reamer or juicer, pressing firmly to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Add a generous handful of ice to your cocktail shaker or mason jar.
- Pour 2 ounces of fresh grapefruit juice into your shaker with the ice, measuring carefully with a jigger.
- Add 1.5 ounces of vodka to the shaker.
- Measure out 0.75 ounce of cooled simple syrup and add it to the shaker.
- Close your shaker and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds to mix and chill the ingredients.
- Using a cocktail strainer, pour the mixture into a highball or rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
- Add 2 ounces of sparkling water or club soda to top off your drink.
- Garnish with a grapefruit slice or twist and serve immediately.
Notes
Serve chilled with fresh ingredients. Adjust simple syrup amount to taste. To make a mocktail, omit vodka and add extra sparkling water plus a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
