Method
- Measure 2 cups of whole milk and pour it into a medium saucepan.
- Heat the milk over medium heat for about 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until hot but not boiling with small steam wisps around the edges.
- Add the roughly chopped Abuelita chocolate tablet to the hot milk.
- Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
- Whisk vigorously for 1 to 2 minutes until the chocolate has fully dissolved and the mixture is foamy.
- Continue heating on medium heat for another 1 to 2 minutes until small bubbles form around the edges, indicating the drink is at perfect drinking temperature.
- Taste the hot chocolate and add sugar or honey if additional sweetness is desired. Stir well.
- Pour the hot chocolate into two mugs, filling about three-quarters full to allow room for toppings.
- Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired, then serve immediately while hot and foamy.
Notes
For an extra-creamy texture, use a milk frother or immersion blender to froth the hot chocolate after whisking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently on the stove while whisking to restore creaminess.
